Missions Corner: Palawan, Philippines

Location: Brooke’s Point, Palawan, Philippines

Welcome friends, family, and supporters! Here’s an update of what we’ve been preparing for these last few months. Isaiah and I are going to the Philippines for missions. We are partnering with Multiply, a missions and mobilization organization that helps bring the Gospel to other countries and equips the global Church to fulfill the Great Commission.

From June 28, 2024 - July 13, 2024, we will be in Palawan, an island off the western coast of the Philippines to teach new believers more about Christ and what they said ‘yes’ to. To give some context, last January, a little over 3,000 students prayed to accept Christ into their hearts. Praise God!

The ‘mission’ for our team is to help mature these students’ faith and make them true disciples of Christ. We will be putting on a discipleship camp for students, a worship camp for worship pastors/leaders around the area, and a 1-day conference to help further educate them about the Gospel, what we believe, and having a servant’s heart.

I will update you accordingly when I have a spare moment to post. Rick Alonzo Ministries will have a presence on the island where we will be utilizing the arts (speed painting & martial arts) to share the Gospel, to teach more about what it means to have a new life in Christ and have a servant’s heart for the Lord.

My goal is to create lasting relationships with our connections in Palawan so that we (Rick Alonzo Ministries) can continue to assist them in their mission to reach the Filipino people. The Philippines has a special place in my family’s heart since my dad, Rick Alonzo, was born there. We still have family in the Philippines that I’ve never met before. It feels like a full circle moment that I get to serve in the country my dad is from and bring the ministry he founded to Palawan.

Dad isn’t going with me. I’ve had a lot of questions about that. This will be my first time taking this ministry internationally without him. I would appreciate any and all prayers.

Prayer Requests:

  • Protection, good health, & safe travels: Pray that we would have a smooth flight to our destinations (arriving and returning flights), that all our luggage (including all our ministry supplies and materials) would arrive in Palawan, and for God’s hand to be upon us as we travel. Pray for good health, travel mercies, and peace for our entire team. Pray for a hedge of protection to be upon us as we serve in Palawan and that the enemy would have no part in what we do.
  • The students and adults that we are serving: Pray for God to move in the lives and hearts of every person that attends the events we are hosting. Pray for a mighty work to be done, for a genuine transformation in their hearts, and for strength to continue running the race set before them. Pray that Christ would be reflected in our words and actions.
  • Peace, strength, humility, and trusting the Lord: Pray for God’s will to be done in our lives in Palawan as it is in heaven. Pray that we would experience God’s peace on this trip, no matter what should occur. Pray that we would always serve in a place of humility, that our hearts would be postured right before God, and that we would only be the vessels in which Christ does an amazing work.

As each day passes during our time there, I will try to update with more specific prayer requests. Please be praying for Isaiah, me, and our team.
